Tramin – Graun | W15

Up on the “hill”, to the white house

From the hotel you walk in the direction of the village church, turn left (signpost Kastelazweg) and walk to the hill church St. Jakob in Kastelaz. “Art lovers should definitely visit the famous frescoes with the bestiaries”. After the little church you leave the road and follow the path through bush forest over the Kastela promenade. After the barrier at the forest road you turn right into the path no. 6 – Kaltbrunn – Schwarzer Kopf. Schramm and in zigzag it goes uphill. The view of the Etsch valley, Tramin, and Lake Kaltern is magnificent. As soon as you reach the Zogglerwiese, the roughest uphill drudgery is over.

Then you turn left onto the wide forest road, marker no. 4 takes you to Graun in just under an hour. The first farm on the way is the Buschenschank Lenzenhof (850 m), from the tables in front of the house you can enjoy a wonderful panorama. After a short rest you continue through beautiful meadows, rows of vines and fruit trees to the little village (800 m). Refreshment stop at the Gasthaus Caroline. A short walk leads you through the fields to the church hill with St. George’s Church and further on to the Sitzkofel lookout point (signpost Lochweg, Sitzkofel, lime kiln, no. 5a), an eagle’s nest above the steep rocky slope to the Adige valley with incredible views. A path circles the hill in an easterly direction and leads into the forest. Steeply downhill over the Lochweg and through a rock crevice it goes back to Tramin.
