Prags
Lake Pragser Wildsee: Truly beautiful!
If you Google South Tyrol, it doesn’t take long before you come across an image of Lake Pragser Wildsee that’s almost too over-the-top and kitsch-beautiful. It makes you wonder: does this place really exist? And we can tell you: yes, it really does! The mountain lake is situated in the Pragser Dolomites in the Upper Puster Valley. In summer, hordes of tourists flock to the lake, so it’s better to visit it outside the peak season.

Sexten
Landmark: The Three Peaks
Three rocks, three summits, three peaks. The most famous trio of peaks in the mountain world can be found in Sesto, in the Upper Puster Valley, near the border with Austria. The view of the mountains is particularly breathtaking at sunrise or dusk. Definitely worth a photo! There are plenty of great hikes you can go on in the Drei Zinnen area.

Reschen
The sunken church tower in Lake Reschen
Probably the most famous church tower in South Tyrol is the one in Lake Reschen in the Vinschgau Valley. What do you mean? The tower is IN the lake? Yes, that’s exactly right. The church tower rises out of the lake. It was around 1950 that the little village of Graun was flooded here due to the construction of a dam. Today, only the old tower of Old Graun remains. It is said that sometimes the church bells can still be heard from the depths of the lake! Why not listen carefully for yourselves? (Perhaps you could make the journey via the Reschen Pass, as it’s not exactly round the corner?)

A Turquoise Dream: Lake Sorapis
Lake Sorapis is also one of the country’s most beautiful lakes. It has such a strikingly turquoise-blue colour that you might think someone had given it a bit of a helping hand. It’s a really lovely spot to relax on the shores of this mountain lake, which is surrounded by white rock faces. A word of warning here too: during the summer months, the lake is a rather popular destination. It’s best to visit in spring or autumn.

Stilfs
The mountain pass road to the Stilfser Joch
Already well known amongst cyclists and motorcyclists: the road up to the high mountain pass, the Stilfser Joch. Winding like a mountain snake, the road – some 30 kilometres long – winds its way to the summit. The views in every direction are breathtaking and definitely worth the ride and a photo.
